Welcome to the DC Baha'i Community!!!

Here you will find useful information about the DC community as well as basic information about the Baha'i Faith itself.

Founded in the middle of the nineteenth century, the Baha'i Faith has spread world-wide, with followers from more than 2100 ethnic, racial, and tribal groups.

Baha'is believe in the oneness of the human race, in removal of all manner of prejudice toward others, and they have, since their Faith was introduced on this continent, been in the forefront of those working for world peace. The Baha'i Faith is not only a fascinating religion with principles recognized as needed in our time; but is a guide to living a more fulfilling life.

A council of nine annually elected members, called the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Washington DC, was first established in 1911 and guides the affairs of the local community.

Like the city itself, the community is diverse, with the changing membership characteristic of modern American cities. We have a large group of young professionals who live in Washington , with a base of long-time Baha'is of various ages. Together we represent all races and religious backgrounds, more than a dozen nations and speak almost a dozen languages.

Our Calendar also has events listed that are always open to  people of all backgrounds and religious beliefs.

The Color of Worship! April 25th!

The Baha'is of Washington DC along with the Howard University School of Divinity Student Government Association coordially invite you to an Inter-Religious Worship Service Commemorating the Visit of Abdu'l-Baha to Howard University.

When: Friday April 25th - 630 PM

Where: Howard University, Thurman Chapel. 1400 Shepherd St NE Washington DC. See MAP.

What: An exciting program featuring the Howard University Gospel Choir and the Baha'i Chorale of Washington DC along with readings and fellowship.

Local Baha'is on NPR - Virtues Classes in Virginia

Local Virginia Baha'is (and former DC residents) Layli and Gil Miller-Muro were featured in a wonderful story on NPR this morning. The story outlines the efforts of the Miller-Muro family to initiate multi-faith virtues classes where the children learn virtues such as obedience, service and friendliness. Baha'i Chair for World Peace Sponsors Dialogue on Diplomacy

The Baha'i Chair for World Peace at the University of Maryland hosted its first annual dialog "Integrating People and Democracy: A necessity for peace in the 21st century?" on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the Inn & Conference Center Ballroom at the university of Maryland.  The panel was chaired by John Grayzel, the Baha'i Chair for World Peace professor at the school.

Baha'is Perform in 28th Annual InterFaith Concert

The spirit of religious harmony echoed through the halls of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on November 13th, 2007 at the 28th Annual InterFaith Concert.  The event, sponsored by the InterFaith Conference, brought together Jewish, Muslim, Hindu/Jain, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, and Bahá’í musicians to present a kaleidoscope of songs from each of their faith traditions.
